What You Should Know about Arthritis in Dogs

A Painful and Debilitating Disease of the Joints

Canine osteoarthritis (or "dog arthritis") is a chronic degenerative disease that affects the bones and soft tissue of the joints, causing pain in dogs and decreasing flexibility. Arthritis can affect any joint in your dog's body, but occurs most often in the:

  • Stifle ("knee")
  • Elbow
  • Carpus ("wrist")
  • Hip
  • Spine

Although research into help for dog arthritis is underway, there is presently no cure, but the pain and inflammation associated with this condition can be treated.

Ask your veterinarian for more information about controlling the pain and inflammation associated with dog arthritis with PREVICOX® (firocoxib).

As a class, cyclooxygenase inhibitory NSAIDs may be associated with gastrointestinal, kidney or liver side effects. These are usually mild, but may be serious. Pet owners should discontinue therapy and contact their veterinarian immediately if side effects occur. Evaluation for pre-existing conditions and regular monitoring are recommended for pets on any medication, including PREVICOX. Use with other NSAIDs, corticosteroids or nephrotoxic medication should be avoided. Refer to the prescribing information for complete details.
